As I'm sitting here thinking of what to write, I'm listening to Ed Sheeran. He's not someone I normally listen to, but his lyrics always seem to hit a soft spot in my heart. I often listen to acoustic lyrical music as I write, mostly because it's what I like, but it also sometimes gives me inspiration if I tune in at just the right moment.
He sings about love and heartbreak, things I'm feeling right now (see previous post). But he also has a few lines about something I'm very interested in: writing the songs themselves. It's a skill I've always been fascinated with. Can you imagine? Being able to write good music is a dream of mine. To be able to make someone physically move their body. To make something emotionally moved; it's something I'm always trying to do with my writing. Love is a funny thing. Here is another reason why.
It changes. All the damn time! The reason you first fell in love with someone might not be the same months later, hell, it might be the reason to break it off. It changes. What once made your world spin may be just the thing stopping it. Yeah, if you can tell, I just got dumped. I was with a girl that gave me a reason to look forward to the next day. I was with a girl who I thought couldn't have gotten more perfect. Especially her laugh, yeah, that was the best. But it all changed. In one text. One second. Everything fell apart and love was no longer this secret to life. It was no longer this magic I was proud to wield. It became a club I wasn't invited to. It became the thing I'm wildly jealous of. It became this thing that changed. |
