The Vox video starts out pretty intense, but I think it is worth watching. And like all of life, it gets better. There are people are doing good work in our government. It can be hard to see through the storm of hate and curruption, but it's there. Hope and love and strength is there.

Please, ignore the odd symbols (ââ¬â¹) throughout the post. I am not sure where they came from. Thanks!
I will not list all of the bad things that make this title feel like a joke. A list is probably already forming in your mind. I want to take a moment to remember some of the good that people accomplished this year.
Let's not forget that the year started with Taylor Swift dropping a beautiful movie of her last concert on her Reputation tour on Netflix so I could watch it over and over. Politics
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern banned assault weapons so quickly after a terrorist attack on a church that she gave hope to the rest of the world that it can be done.
âVoting rights restored to many ex-convicts in Kentucky.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez was elected and has not stopped fighting to make change. She is a hero and a queen who was given hope to millions of Americans. (Her website here). Science
Scientists learned that cats recognize their own names- and will still ignore you sometimes.
The second person ever is in sustained remission of HIV.
NASA is growing plants in space...
âThree things: kids spoke up about protecting the environment and fighting climate change and got stuff done (hell yeah!). Also, people planted tons of trees and Greta Thunberg exists.

It's good to remember the little things. Stuff like this always cheers me up! I was only going to share one or two, but then... the little baker has more smiles to share! You can find Roman's Cooking Corner under his mom's name, Ayla Jalyn on Youtube and Instagram.

Another side of the problem: charity. I know, how could rich people possibly ruin charity? Hasan Minaj puts it far better than I can, but here’s a tl;dr: rich people often benefit more from giving to charity than anyone else. Also, there’s a lot of power in deciding which causes get money to begin with. | |
- The money comes in the form of Amazon stock — from Bezos’ Day 1 Families Fund — and goes to the Homeless Services Network of Central Florida. (Orlando Sentienal)
Homeless Services Network will need to manage the stock over the next five years to maximize its value. It was not immediately clear if there is a limit on how much of the gift can be cashed in each year. (Orlando Sentienal)
When we say ‘tax the rich,’ we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan shark rich. Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-food-stamps rich. Because THAT kind of rich is simply not good for society, and it’s like ten people. - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
...the line “Say, what’s in this drink” needs to be explained in a broader context to refute the idea that he spiked her drink. “Say, what’s in this drink” is a well-used phrase that was common in movies of the time period and isn’t really used in the same manner any longer. The phrase generally referred to someone saying or doing something they thought they wouldn’t in normal circumstances; it’s a nod to the idea that alcohol is “making” them do something unusual. But the joke is almost always that there is nothing in the drink. The drink is the excuse. (Persephone Magazine)
Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is particularly telling about the role of women in the era before the Pill arrived in 1960. There were huge risks for women having sex outside of marriage at a time when abortion was illegal and birth control was unreliable. “Nice girls” were not allowed to say yes to sex -- “yes” was only for designated sluts. So for the first half of the 20th century, everyone engaged in a kind of double-speak in which saying no could mean a variety of things, depending on the context. (Rupp)
